Derived from a simple observation of the everyday struggle with traditional condiment bottles, Baowen Zhao's Swing Pot offers an innovative solution. People often resort to knocking pepper bottles with their fingers to let the powder out. The Swing Pot, however, allows the condiment to flow out easily with a simple shake of the bottle. The inner part swings from left to right, hitting the bottle cover, thus enabling the condiment to come out. A silicone ring around the cover adds an extra layer of protection.
The Swing Pot's design is not just about functionality, but also about aesthetics and cultural integration. The designer's aim was to bring a different cultural experience and more fun to the dining table. The Swing Pot's unique properties lie in its interactive design that encourages users to engage with the product, making meal times more enjoyable.
The Swing Pot is crafted with precision and care. The outer case is made from metal, while the inner part consists of a transparent plastic bottle with a metal cap. The silicone ring covering the cap is a thoughtful addition, enhancing the product's durability. The technical specifications of the Swing Pot are Width 45 x Depth 24 x Height 75.
The design process of the Swing Pot started in September 2014 in Hamburg and was completed in October 2014. The designer conducted extensive research, observing people in restaurants and identifying the common issues they faced with condiment bottles. The Swing Pot was designed to address these issues, making it a product born out of real-life challenges.
For its innovative design and functionality, the Swing Pot was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award in 2015. This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, Baowen Zhao's Swing Pot is a testament to the power of observation and the potential of design to transform everyday experiences. It is a product that truly spices up meals, not just with condiments, but also with a dash of fun and innovation.
